Battlegrounds Mobile India, known as BGMI, is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Google has relisted the popular battle royale, marking the relaunch of BGMI, just two days after Krafton announced it has secured the Indian government's approval. Last year, the government ordered both Google and Apple to delist Battlegrounds Mobile India due to concerns over its impact on the country's sovereignty. However, the immediate ban did not extend to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) blocking server access to the game. Nonetheless, the ban prevented future updates to the game as it was no longer available on app marketplaces. The recent relaunch of the game now ensures its accessibility to a wide audience once again.
BGMI is currently in a trial phase
Last week, Krafton, the South Korean company that took over the popular battle royale game after its ban in India, stated that it is a responsible organization that complies with the law and has implemented measures to ensure regulatory compliance. While specific details of their compliance efforts were not mentioned, reports suggest that the latest version of Battlegrounds Mobile India includes default green-colored spills and a gaming timer to address concerns regarding prolonged gaming.
Vibhor Kukreti, Head of Government Affairs at Krafton India, expressed their dedication to supporting and promoting the growth of the gaming ecosystem in India by embracing innovative practices.
However, the return of BGMI is subject to a three-month probationary period and certain conditions. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, clarified that the final decision on allowing the game's return will be made after a strict three-month trial period. The government will closely monitor issues related to user harm, addiction, and other factors before reaching a final decision. Chandrasekhar further explained that the trial approval is contingent upon BGMI's compliance with server locations, data security, and other relevant aspects.
